Let children take the lead when discovering new sports

Be a role model for your children
Our kids are always watching (even when we think they’re not!). One of the best ways to show them the value of being active is by getting involved yourself. Dust off your trainers, sign up for a local fun run, or join that evening fitness class you’ve been meaning to try.
When they see you trying new activities and having fun, they’ll feel more confident and excited to give it a go too!
Get your child to team up with friends or siblings when starting a new sport
Trying something new can feel a little scary, especially if your child is nervous about meeting new people. The good news? Everything’s easier with a buddy!
Whether it’s a sibling or a friend from school, doing a new activity with someone they know can make it way more fun and less intimidating. Plus, it’s a great way to make new friends while strengthening old bonds.
Get involved in your child’s new sporting passion
Once they’ve found a sport they love, dive in with them! Chat with them about their progress, watch them practice, and even play their favourite sport together. You can surf YouTube together and watch inspiring athletes in action at big competition events, such as the Olympics!

At the end of the day, nothing beats feeling supported. Whether your child is competing in a gymnastics competition, a Ninja run, a football match, or a swim meet, be their biggest cheerleader. Celebrate their wins, but also remind them that it’s all about having fun and giving their best effort, no matter the outcome.
